High Temperature Cables

High Temperature Cables

High Temperature Cables

High temperature cables are essential for environments where both working temperatures and ambient temperatures exceed normal limits. These cables are specifically designed to perform in such harsh conditions and are manufactured with a variety of conductors, insulation materials, and screening materials to ensure durability and reliability.

They are commonly used across industries such as steel, petrochemical, power plants, marine, and communications, providing a high level of performance even under extreme conditions.

Available in single-core or multi-core configurations, these cables are perfect for high-temperature applications, including engine proximity wiring, control systems, and instrumentation, where resistance to heat, chemicals, and physical stress is paramount.

Construction:

Single-core or multi-core cables with a range of insulation options, including silicone rubber, cross-linked polyolefin elastomer, and more. These cables can be shielded or unshielded, and armored or unarmored based on application requirements.

Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage Grade: 250VAC, 600VAC, 1000VAC (Rating as per MIL 16878, VDE, DIN, ANSI)
  • Conductor: Annealed bare or tinned copper (up to 120°C), silver-plated copper (up to 200°C), nickel-plated copper (up to 260°C)
  • Fire Barrier: Glass mica tape
  • Insulation: Silicone rubber or cross-linked polyolefin elastomer
  • Screening: Options include aluminum Mylar/copper tape with tinned copper drain wire, or braided with bare, tinned, nickel-plated, or silver-plated copper
  • Inner Sheath: LSOH / ZHFR or equivalent
  • Armouring: Galvanized steel wire helical armouring or wire braiding
  • Outer Sheath: LSOH / ZHFR or equivalent
  • Operating Temperature Range: -72°C to 350°C (varies with insulation material)
  • Standards: BS:5308, IEC:60331 (950°C for 3 hrs), fire resistance to BS:6387 category CWZ

Insulation Material Temperature Range:

  • Varnished Fibre Glass Braid: -72°C to 350°C (High temperature resistance)
  • FEP: -200°C to 200°C (Good chemical resistance, thin wall insulation)
  • PFA: -200°C to 250°C (Good chemical resistance, flexibility)
  • PTFE: -200°C to 260°C (Excellent chemical resistance, high temperature stability)
  • Kapton Tape: -250°C to 300°C (Very thin wall insulation, high temperature resistance)
  • PEEK: -160°C to 250°C (Mechanically tough, high temperature and radiation resistance)
  • ETFE: -150°C to 150°C (Mechanically tough)
  • Silicone Rubber: -40°C to 200°C (Flexible and abrasion-resistant)

Core Marking:

The cable features color-coded cores for easy identification, including Green/Yellow for earth, and Blue, Brown, Black, Grey for other cores.

Industry & Applications:

  • Steel: Cables for blast furnaces, electric arc furnaces, hot & cold rolling mills, steel refining facilities, etc.
  • Communication: High-frequency co-axial cables for VHF, UHF, and XHF transmission
  • Marine: Engine proximity wiring with resistance to high temperatures, fuel oils, chemicals, saline air/water
  • Petrochemical: Instrumentation & control, temperature sensing, fire warning systems
  • Power: Proximity to turbines, boilers, ash handling systems, etc.
